Marketing/Graphic Design Intern

SUMMER 2012

Times Square Alliance, founded in 1992, works to improve and promote Times Square. In addition to providing safety and sanitation services, the Alliance coordinates many major events in Times Square including New Year’s Eve, manages an Information Center and advocates on behalf of its constituents with respect to a host of public policy, planning and quality-of-life issues.

We are currently seeking highly-motivated interns to help us improve and promote Times Square, cultivating the creativity, energy and edge that have made the area an icon of entertainment, culture and urban life for over a century.

The Marketing/Graphic Design Intern will support the Marketing Manager in maintaining the visual identity of the Times Square brand through printed materials, advertisements, signage and TimesSquareNYC.org. The Intern must be able to capture Times Square’s creativity, energy and edge.

The Intern will also be supporting the Marketing Department staff on various projects. This includes executing an array of day-to-day tasks in addition to supporting our annual summer Times Square events including but not limited to Taste of Times Square, Solstice in Times Square and Broadway on Broadway and Fashion’s Night Out. The Intern will work the events which may include set up, registration, manning booths, supporting participating businesses, distributing programs and surveying participants.

The Graphic Design Intern must be available to work the events on the following dates (depending on length of internship): Monday, June 11, 2012, Wednesday, June 20, 2012, Thursday, September 6, 2012, Sunday, September 9, 2012, Monday, September 10, 2012 and other dates still to be determined. The Intern will be able to take pre-scheduled comparable time off during their regular hours to compensate for the hours they work at these events.

Tasks include but not limited to:

  • Re-sizing advertisement to meet publication specs
  • Designing posters, flyers and signs for specific events and initiatives
  • Creating graphics for TimesSquareNYC.org
  • Assisting with the creation of event recaps in PowerPoint
  • Taking pictures of Times Square
  • Support event production
  • Other projects as assigned

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Strong interest in Times Square
  • Graphic Design or Arts Major
  • Adobe CS 3 (Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator) experience
  • Adequate technical knowledge to be able to submit artwork within the guidelines and specs provided by various publications and websites
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Enthusiasm and initiative
  • Works well under pressure, flexible, has high attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment
  • Self-starter who works well independently and with a team
  • Photography experience is a plus
  • PowerPoint experience is a plus
  • Copywriting experience is a plus
  • Minimum of 2-3 days per week (approximately 15 hours)

Communications Intern

Times Square Alliance, founded in 1992, works to improve and promote Times Square. In addition to providing safety and sanitation services, the Alliance coordinates many major events in Times Square, including New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day, Summer Solstice, Taste of Times Square, and Broadway on Broadway. It also manages the Times Square Visitor Center and Museum, and advocates on behalf of its constituents with respect to a host of public policy, planning and quality-of-life issues.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated communications intern to help us improve and promote Times Square, cultivating the creativity, energy and edge that have made the area an icon of entertainment, culture and urban life for over a century.

The communications intern will support the Communications and Marketing Department staff in their efforts to publicize the Times Square Alliance events and its initiatives. Responsibilities will include news clip organization, building a digital archive, data entry, media relations, helping draft press releases, historical research, and updating the website.   

The Intern will also be supporting the Communications and Marketing Department staff on various projects and at events as necessary. This includes executing an array of day-to-day tasks to help document Alliance activities through photography, videography, and social media.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Web savvy, able to efficiently perform web searches
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-starter who works well independently and with a team
  • Comfortable preparing databases in Excel
  • Salesforce knowledge a plus
  • Comfortable interacting, via the phone and in person, with the press, businesses and the public
  • Videography and editing experience a plus
  • Minimum of 15 hours/week

Marketing/Events Intern

We are currently seeking highly-motivated non-paid interns to help us improve and promote Times Square, cultivating the creativity, energy and edge that have made the area an icon of entertainment, culture and urban life for over a century.

The Marketing/Events Intern will support our Crossroads Card loyalty program. The Crossroads Card is available for free to employees and residents of the Times Square District. The program offers discounts and perks to cardholders at businesses throughout Times Square. The Marketing/Events Intern, in partnership with a staff member, will contact local businesses informing them of this free program and solicit participation. The Intern will also be involved in distribution and marketing of the card to cardholders via email, advertising and promotion.

The Intern will also support our annual summer events, including Taste of Times Square and Summer Solstice in Times Square: Yoga. The Intern will work the event including set up, registration, manning booths, supporting participating businesses, distributing programs and surveying participants.

The Marketing/Events Intern must be available to work the events on the following dates: the evening of Monday, June 4 and all day Wednesday, June 20th – Saturday, June 23rd. The Intern will be able to take pre-scheduled comparable time off during their regular hours to compensate for the hours they work at these events.

Sponsorship/Integrated Marketing Intern

SUMMER  2012

The Sponsorship/Integrated Marketing Intern, will research potential sponsors for Times Square events in partnership with the Sponsorship Mgr. This intern will also support sponsor efforts by helping create sales presentations, prospective sponsor summaries and assist with sponsorship fulfillment.

The Intern will also support our 2nd and 3rd quarter events, including Taste of Times Square, Solstice in Times Square and Broadway on Broadway. The Intern may be required to work the event including set up, and providing support to the marketing team (the Intern will be able to take pre-scheduled comparable time off during their regular hours to compensate for the hours they work at any events.)

Qualifications/Skills

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong writing skills
  • Self-starter who works well independently and with a team
  • Strong knowledge of PowerPoint
  • Comfortable interacting, via the phone and in person, with businesses and the public
