Paul Mooney from Comedy Central's Chapelle Show at Times Square
Type: Entertainment & Performances
Paul Mooney is one of the most dangerous and brilliant comic minds of our time. This is not a show for those considered easily offended.
Like Richard Pryor at his peak, Paul Mooney talks straight, but unlike Pryor, whose repertoire ranged from imitating animals to inhabiting the minds of children to discussing male/female relationships, Mooney’s a race man. Period. He says, “Well, white folks, you shouldn’t have ever made up the word. You f****d up. I say nigga 100 times every morning; it makes my teeth white.”
Paul Mooney was born in Louisiana and grew up in Oakland, California. As a youth, he literally ran away from home and joined the Charles Gody Circus, going down in history as the first African-American ringmaster. He was always writing comedy. He says “When I was ringmaster, I was doing jokes. I think funny.”
