Choi Ropiha, the architectural practice that won the Van Alen Institute’s design competition for the new TKTS booth, specializes in public and residential architecture and urban design. Their concept provided the inspiration for the overall design of the TKTS booth and the red steps. Lead Designers: John Choi, Tai Ropiha

Perkins Eastman, one of the nation’s largest architecture and design firms, designed Choi Ropiha’s concept for the ticket booth and steps. The firm creates innovative environments for many organizations and client-types, designing communities, facilities, and environments that enhance our everyday lives. The firm practices in 10 offices worldwide. Design Principal: Nick Leahy, AIA

 

Dewhurst Macfarlane and Partners, which engineered the glass steps structure, is an engineering consulting firm specializing in innovative
structural and façade design. Founded in London in 1985, the company now employs 50 staff members working from four offices worldwide. Project Engineer: Michael Ludvik, P.E.

iG Innovation Glass offers management and consulting services for unique and uncommon building endeavors in the commercial and high-end residential markets, from concept design through final construction. The firm’s specialty lies in understanding the challenges of implementing “first-of-its-kind” constructions. The firm maintains a select international clientele with primary operations in the United States. Lead Engineer: Franz Safford

William Fellows, currently with PKSB Architects, an award-winning architecture and interior design firm, designed Father Duffy plaza to integrate the space’s disparate elements into a coherent whole. The new plaza effortlessly blends the new and old together – creating a civic environment that both honors the historical importance of Father Duffy, as well as offers the public a welcome addition to Times Square.

D. Haller, Inc., the construction manager, provides complete construction
services ranging from initial estimating, scheduling, and logistic development through trade procurement, coordination, and field supervision. The firm specializes in building conversions, apartments and high-end condominiums, universities and private schools, museum galleries, and commercial office interiors. Gorton & Partners, LLC, the client representative, is a full service project management and consulting firm headquartered in New York City. Its team of construction professionals provides integrated management of all phases of the development process. Gorton & Partners, LLC boasts an impressive roster of clients in the commercial, residential and institutional sectors, including Metropolitan Museum of Art, Sotheby’s, Hyatt Hotels, Jean Georges’ “66,” St. Francis College, and Marymount College.

DMJM Harris, the project’s civil, structural, and geotechnical engineer, is a world leader in the planning, design, and construction of infrastructure
projects, serving a broad array of market sectors from a worldwide network of over 50 offices. Local New York projects include the permanent World Trade Center PATH Terminal, Hudson River Park, the redevelopment of Lincoln Center, the Second Avenue Subway, and the rehabilitation and restoration of Grand Central Terminal.

 

David Shuldiner, Inc., a 120-year-old premier glass, glazing and architectural metal firm based in Brooklyn, assembled and tested the glass stair structure. Working closely with architects, engineers, and contractors, Shuldiner utilizes cutting-edge glass technology and extensive technical knowledge to turn design concepts into reality. Shuldiner’s previous projects include work at Terminal 4 at JFK Airport, the United Nations, and the restoration of the Statue of Liberty.

 

Merrifield–Roberts, the fiberglass ticket booth fabricator, has been building unique structures for more than 30 years. From large pieces of public art to ornamental architecture to America’s Cup yachts, Merrifield–Roberts craftsmen provide the engineering and material expertise needed to turn complex design into structure.

Schaefer Lewis Engineers, PC, the project mechanical engineering firm, provides comprehensive solutions in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering across a broad range of project types and sizes. Located in Albany, it is an innovative firm dedicated to meeting the challenges presented by global change and emerging technologies.

iLight Technologies is the company behind the red Plexineon LED lighting system that illuminates the stairway from below. Plexineon is an award-winning product line and proprietary LED lighting system.  iLight products have been used by architects and lighting designers around the world on the set of the Broadway music Wicked, the WABC news set, the Toyota Center, and Raleigh Durham Airport Sculpture to Powered Flight, among others.
