Giant Philips Light Switch Illuminates 11,875-Pound Ball as it Rises Up 130-Foot Pole Atop One Times Square
In final preparation for New Year’s Eve, the iconic Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball will be lit and sent up the 130-foot pole atop One Times Square on Monday, December 30 at noon. (Enter One Times Square through Walgreen’s on 7th Avenue between 42nd and 43rd Streets).
Event co-organizers Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance, and Jeff Straus, President of Countdown Entertainment, along with Ed Crawford, CEO of Philips Lighting Company and Bruno Biasiotta CEO for Philips North America will flip the giant switch that initiates the spectacular, state-of-the-art lighting effects powered by 32,256 Philips Luxeon LEDs and embellished by the Ball’s 2,688 Waterford Crystals.
Immediately after the Ball Test, press is invited to the fifth floor to photograph the inflating of thousands of balloons that will be handed out to revelers on New Year’s Eve.
