Organizers Test Confetti from the Hard Rock Cafe Marquee for
Times Square 2014 New Year’s Eve
The Amazing Spider-Man, the Official Superhero of New Year’s Eve, will throw handfuls of confetti from the Hard Rock Cafe marquee at the northwest corner of 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue in Times Square as part of the annual confetti test on Sunday, December 29 at 11 a.m.
Spider-Man will join Marc Webb, director of the forthcoming movie The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, Times Square Alliance President Tim Tompkins, Countdown Entertainment President Jeffrey Straus, and Times Square New Year’s Eve host Allison Hagendorf in preparation for the release of one ton of confetti—by hand from various buildings in Times Square—at midnight on New Year’s Eve.
Each year, international visitors from countries such as Japan, Chile, Australia, France, China and Brazil write their wishes for the New Year on pieces of confetti and post them on the New Year’s Eve Wishing Wall in the Times Square Museum and Visitor Center. These pieces are then mixed in with one ton of confetti that will flutter down onto revelers gathered in Times Square when the Ball, designed by Waterford Crystal and lit by Philips Luxeon LEDs, drops at midnight. Over a thousand people from more than 50 countries have already submitted a wish this year. The public can post wishes on the New Year’s Eve Wishing Wall until December 30. Wishes can also be submitted online.
The Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment are the co-organizers of Times Square New Year’s Eve. For more information, please visit TimesSquareNYC.org/NewYearsEve.
