2013 Program Kicks Off with Cosmic Light and Energy Show on Times Square Billboards
January 1st-31st, every night from 11:57pm till Midnight
New York, NY- January 1, 2013 – Supernovas, cosmic collisions and stellar patterns will light the billboards in Times Square every night throughout January, turning the “Crossroads of the World” into the “Crossroads of the Universe.” The “Midnight Moment,” presented by the Times Square Advertising Coalition (TSAC) and Times Square Arts, launches its 2013 season with Stasis, a celestial inspired piece by artists Taxiplasm & Jonathan Henry. The synchronized art program will be shown on over fifteen of the largest digital screens in Times Square every night at 11:57 pm – midnight, as part of the largest coordinated effort in history by sign operators in Times Square to display daily, synchronized creative content.
Stasis is a compilation of several video painting variations creating a hypnotic landscape of color and motion. The piece is in many ways inspired by NASA photographs of celestial, cosmic activity and stellar patterns and shapes across the universe. The artist known as Taxiplasm draws a parallel between the way gases majestically interact with one another to the imagery of organic fluids here on Earth - as if parts of the universe were intertwining to create offspring.

“My collaborators and I are grateful for this unique opportunity to launch the program in the New Year and share our cosmic imagery and understanding on this amazing platform with the people of New York City,” said artist Taxiplasm. The artist was recently featured in Art in America’s review of the most preeminent video at Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2012.
The “Midnight Moment” is the largest coordinated effort in history by the sign operators in Times Square to display synchronized, cutting-edge creative content on billboards throughout Times Square every night. The program, formerly known as “Times Square Moment: A Digital Gallery”, premiered in May 2012 and is organized and supported by the Times Square Advertising Coalition in partnership with Times Square Arts, the public art program for the Times Square Alliance, with additional partners of participating sign holders and artists. Each night, Times Square becomes a digital art gallery through dazzling visuals on select billboards. Every show begins at 11:57pm with a "countdown" that signals the start of the 3 minute nightly presentation. Content changes monthly; selected works are announced in the weeks preceding the start of a new show as are the exact signs participating in that month's selection.

About the Artist
Brian Gonzalez (aka Taxiplasm) graduated with honors from the School of Visual Arts as the winner of Outstanding Cinematography Class of 2009 (awarded by Robert Elswit, ASC) and has garnered numerous accolades from Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, Art Basel Miami Beach, The Robert Wilson Watermill Center and more. Since, Gonzalez has created multi-disciplinary video works with Untitled Magazine, Atlantic Records, Chimera Music, renowned performance artists Sarah Small, Seanna Sharpe and more, along with ContaminateNYC creating multi-sensory interactive installation experiences. Currently Gonzalez is co-directing a feature length documentary with Sean Lennon chronicling legendary avant garde designers threeASFOUR and this coming February will be screening three films as part of Lincoln Center's Dance On Camera Festival.
Jonathan Henry is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker specializing in documentary, fashion, and video art. Playing off inspiration from his upbringing, much of his personal work is influenced by dance and the movement of the human body. Jonathan is currently working with New York production company Colony.
