NEW YEAR’S EVE Goes Green as numerals “1” and “0” travel by pedicab to Times Square

GIANT NUMERALS TRAVELED THROUGH NEW YORK CITY ON PEDICABS

TO TIMES SQUARE ON DECEMBER 16TH

NUMERALS ON PUBLIC DISPLAY AT DURACELL SMART POWER LAB IN TIMES SQUARE FOR ONE WEEK ONLY

For the first time in nine years, two giant seven-foot-tall numerals, made their way through the streets of Manhattan to make a perfect “10” in Times Square. This year,  as the New Years numerals go green, the “1” and the “0” that will complete the “2-0-1-0” sign as the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball descends high atop One Times Square on December

31st, traveled by pedicab to the Duracell Smart Power Lab in Times Square.

New this year, Philips Lighting will be converting the Times Square New Year’s Eve Numerals “2-0-1-0” from their previous halogen light source to state-of-the-art LED bulbs, completing Philips’ conversion of the Times Square Ball experience to a highly sustainable LED platform. The 545 custom designed Philips scalloped LED flood bulbs lighting the numerals use just 9 watts each, compared to the 40 watts consumed by the previous halogen bulbs, representing a 78% energy savings. The new LED bulbs are designed for outdoor use and have a rated average life of 25,000 hours based on the unique usage factors in the Times Square application.
