This month's installation features Erika Janunger's Weightless, 2012, presented in partnership with PORTLAND GREEN™. This presentation of Weightless is part of Midnight Moment: A Digital Gallery, the ongoing public video project organized and presented by the Times Square Advertising Coalition (TSAC) and Times Square Arts, the public art program of the Times Square Alliance.
In Weightless, 2012, director Erika Janunger's choreography defies gravity through a multi-channel installation spanning seven city-blocks of Times Square. It is difficult to discern the position of dancer against the wall, floor or ceiling. The dancers’ bodies seem to float within space. In the setting of Times Square’s canyon, they will look as if they traverse between the buildings.
Weightless (single-channel, 2007) has been screened and exhibited internationally including Vo’Arte: Festival of Film, Art and Technologies, Portugal in 2011, International Dance and Electronic Media, Mexico (FEDAME) in 2010, Murberget Lansmuseet Vasternorrland, Sweden in 2011, and Dance Camera West, USA in 2009.
