September 24, 2012 - The Opening Night performance of the Metropolitan Opera's 125th anniversary season was transmitted live to multiple giant screens in Times Square, with free seating for 2,000 people on Duffy Square at Broadway Plaza and 46th Street. Screens that carried the transmission included the American Eagle Times Square, Bank of America, ClearChannel Spectacolor, and City Outdoor.
Bartlett Sher's new production of Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore opens the Met's 2012–13 season on September 24. Anna Netrebko and Matthew Polenzani star as Adina and Nemorino, with Mariusz Kwiecien as Belcore and Ambrogio Meastri as Dulcamara. Maurizio Benini conducts.
