Residency at the Crossroads 2015-16

Residency at the Crossroads is a cross-disciplinary and collaborative residency program, in which artists are invited to experiment and engage with Times Square’s unique urban identity and users. Launched in Summer 2015, the program hosts a series of 4 three-month residencies each year for New York City-based artists, infusing artists into the thriving urban commercial district of Times Square in order to creatively investigate its identity and usage through observation, experimentation, engagement and documentation.

Visited by 350,000+ users per day, Times Square is experienced by an incredibly diverse population of tourists, employees and residents. However, its very transformation and economic success have severely diminished the number of artists residing in the district. This residency aims to bring local artists’ creative perspectives back ot the district, offering nuance to the Times Square story while encouraging a new generation of artists to work in the public realm.
