TDF is proud to present an autism friendly performance of Come From Away. This is a special performance for individuals on the autism spectrum, as well as people with other developmental or cognitive disabilities who may benefit, not for the general public.

The musical will be performed in a supportive environment for children and adults who are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder or other sensitivity issues and their families and friends. Slight adjustments to lighting and sound will be made for the performance. In the downstairs theatre lobby there will be a break area staffed by specialists in the field, if anyone needs to leave his or her seats during the show.  A downloadable Social Narrative (in Word format) with pictures of the theatre and the production will be available on this page, designed to personalize the experience for individuals wishing to prepare for the show. Additional resources for this performance such as a Character Guide and Guide to Attending the Show will also be available.

Following the 9/11 attacks, 38 planes and 6,579 passengers were forced to land in Gander, Newfoundland, doubling the population of one small town on the edge of the world. Based on interviews with locals, Come From Away is about how hosting this international community of strangers spurred unexpected camaraderie in extraordinary circumstances. Come From Away takes you into the heart of the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships.

Recommended for ages 12 and up. There is some profanity throughout the show.

1 hour and 30 minutes with no intermission. As with all TDF autism friendly performances you will be allowed to leave and return to your seats as needed.
