We've held a variety of outdoor concerts and activities in the plazas over the past several years. Below you can find more information about some of those programs.

Concert Series, 2020 – 2021
Curated and hosted by Ben Cameron

The Songs for Our City songwriting challenge asked members of the Broadway community to write original songs inspired by the past year and the present moment. They shared their new songs in free live concerts celebrating the theatre community, creativity, and live music, with audience votes deciding who will perform again in the final concert for a panel of judges. Concerts took place remotely in 2020 and in person (but live streamed) in 2021.

Concert Series, 2018 – 2021
Curated and hosted by Ben Cameron

Broadway Buskers brought Broadway actors and composers to the Times Square pedestrian plazas to perform their own original music among the lights and energy of Times Square. Past seasons included performers who have appeared on Broadway in Ain’t Too Proud, Frozen, Hadestown, Wicked, and more.

Activity series, 2019

This unique weekly series in partnership with Strand Book Store consisted of free coloring sessions with one-of-a-kind coloring pages designed by the team behind Strand’s iconic tote bags, apparel, and merchandise, as well as custom pages from fan favorite Coloring Broadway. Seating, materials, and live music accompaniment were provided.

In July 2019, Times Square hosted Street Lab’s DRAW NYC — an open-air art studio that offers New Yorkers access to fine art materials and encourages them to gather together to draw and create in public. Participants were able to use artist prompts and take part in activities, or draw from their own inspiration. DRAW NYC travels across New York City and is designed for all ages and abilities.
